Corset Story: Sustainability & Green Practices
At Corset Story, we strive to balance delivering high-quality, timeless fashion with minimizing our impact on the planet. While we are proud of the steps we’ve taken so far, we recognize there is always room for improvement. Below is an honest breakdown of where we shine and where we aim to do better.
🌿 Where We Do Well
-
Direct Shipping
All of our corsets are shipped directly from our factory in Delhi, India, to your door. By cutting out unnecessary routing to secondary warehouses, we significantly reduce the carbon footprint of our deliveries. -
Sustainable Returns Process
Wherever possible, we route returns to domestic warehouses in your country, avoiding the need to ship them back to the UK. Returned corsets that pass our quality checks are resold in our "Sustainable Returns" category. While these corsets may not be folded perfectly, they remain in excellent condition, allowing us to avoid additional emissions from unnecessary shipping and cleaning. -
Minimal Operational Footprint
Corset Story is a lean operation, with a small team of just three employees working from home whenever possible. Our main physical footprint is our factory in Delhi, where our talented tailors craft each piece with care. -
High-Quality, Long-Lasting Garments
Our corsets are built to last and come with a 12-month warranty, but with proper care, they should serve you for years. Investing in a single, high-quality item that endures is far more sustainable than frequently replacing cheaper, poorly made alternatives. -
Natural Fabrics in Our Designs
Nearly all our corsets feature organic cotton linings, and we offer a range of designs in natural fabrics such as cotton and viscose. -
Localized Production
Most of our corset-making processes are managed in-house at our Delhi factory. For the few processes we outsource, we work exclusively with trusted, local businesses in the same area, reducing additional transportation emissions. -
Carbon-Neutral Couriers
We ship with major courier services like DHL, UPS, and FedEx, all of which are carbon-neutral. While we acknowledge that these companies achieve this status through carbon credits, it’s a step in the right direction for shipping sustainability.
🌱 Where We Could Do Better
-
Expanding Sustainable Fabric Options
While we’ve introduced natural fabrics like cotton and viscose, we’d love to incorporate more sustainable and recycled materials into our designs. However, highly sustainable fabrics often come at a significant cost, sometimes adding $40 to the price of a corset. As these fabric prices drop, we aim to integrate more eco-friendly options into our designs. -
Recycling Old Corsets
In the future, we plan to launch a recycling program for unloved corsets. Customers could send their old pieces to a domestic address, where we would recycle fabrics and steel components in exchange for a small discount on future purchases. While polyesters and synthetics don’t degrade well, they are durable and hold their value. In the meantime, we recommend reselling your pre-loved corsets on platforms like eBay, where they often fetch reasonable prices.
Our Commitment to Progress
Sustainability is a journey, and while we’re proud of the steps we’ve taken, we’re constantly exploring ways to improve. Whether it’s sourcing more sustainable fabrics, reducing waste, or offering recycling solutions, we’re committed to doing better for the planet and for you, our valued customers.
Thank you for supporting a fashion brand that values craftsmanship, quality, and environmental consciousness. Together, we can make a difference—one corset at a time.
Warm regards,
The Corset Story Team
